Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) celebrated its 20th Anniversary at its ANNUAL AWARDS Luncheon, which was attended by almost 400 business and community leaders at Saginaw Valley State University.
SFI recognized the community leaders who helped establish the economic development organization in 1992 and reflected on its milestones and future outlook in a video presentation.
“It’s been an honor to be the 20th Chairman of the Saginaw Future Inc. Board of Directors,” said Bruce Hill, president and CEO of HealthPlus of Michigan. “The founding leadership of SFI helped lay the successful framework for the organization that continues today and into the future.”
Saginaw Future also acknowledged 30 economic development projects from 2011 that led to nearly $452 million invested in Saginaw. Along with the Economic Excellence Awards, Merrill Tool & Machine Inc. was selected as the Saginaw Future Procurement Technical Assistance Contractor of the Year.
Saginaw County and the Great Lakes Bay Region saw the resurgence of the auto industry with major investments by GM – Saginaw Metal Casting Operations and Nexteer Automotive. Five service oriented companies added to the diversification of our local economy, along with new health care related projects and agribusiness. Advanced Manufacturing remains strong with16 projects that include medical device manufacturing and renewable energy.
Saginaw Future President JoAnn Crary stated, “The successful projects announced in 2011 were a fitting way to cap twenty years of collaboration and relentless pursuit of growth for Saginaw County and the Region. Today we celebrate the collaboration and determination of many individuals and organizations who came together for the betterment of our community.”
The ANNUAL AWARDS Luncheon featured speaker was Robert D. Hansen, president and CEO for the Dow Corning Corporation. Hansen highlighted Dow Corning’s commitment to innovating for future growth in the Great Lakes Bay Region and the rest of the world.
Established in 1992, Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) is a private alliance of local businesses, the County of Saginaw, City of Saginaw, 14 local municipalities and the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce. SFI’s strategic partners also include education, labor and government. Since its beginning, SFI has remained dedicated to fostering quality job creation through expansion of local industry and attraction of new business projects to the community.
