Time’s Up, Hausbeck Wins
The 90-day trial period for Hausbeck Pickle Company is over and they
have emerged a winner. Adding to its already impressive list of
customers, Hausbeck will now supply pickles to 1,800 Subway
Restaurants in Florida and the Midwest. This contract affords Hausbeck
the opportunity to more than double its labor force as well as build
an addition and make renovations to its processing plant and offices
in Spaulding Township.
City Plans Riverfront Park
Through an award from the Michigan Natural Resources
Trust Fund, the City of Saginaw will purchase land on Hamilton in
Saginaw City to create the West Side Riverfront Park. Plans include a
boat mooring, a fishing dock, landscaping and walkways, and benches
placed between the Holland and Andersen bridges.
MCVI - Bigger and Better
The target date for the grand opening of the new MCVI
regional medical offices has been pushed back to early 2003, and with
good reason. The original plans called for a 60,000 sq. ft., 2-story
building, leaving little room for expansion. The remedy…build a
3-story facility with 90,000 sq. ft. instead. In addition to this
expansion, plans now include the construction of a 10,000 sq. ft.
medical office building and a possible 20,000 sq. ft non-medical
office on the site of the Temple B’Nai Israel synagogue.
Wright-K Technology Offers Training

classroom for those companies seeking training in Microsoft Office and
CAD Drawing. Classes in Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel,
Outlook, Access, PowerPoint and FrontPage are available in one-day
sessions from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Six New Homes for the City of
Saginaw
Six new houses will be erected on property south of
Forest Lawn Granite Works and across the street from Forest Lawn
Cemetery. These 1,300 sq. ft. 3-bedroom homes, with two-car attached
garages are available to working heads-of-household with low and
low-middle incomes through the federally funded HOME program. For more
information, contact Emma Haines, Block Grant Specialist, at 759-1584.
Event Center Renovations Begin
Even before the Ontario Hockey League gave its
thumbs-up to Saginaw, renovations to Wendler Arena were scheduled to
begin in April. Plans include installation of new concession stands
and scoreboard, new glass and boards surrounding the rink, an upgrade
to the ice making plant under the rink, new seats, and possibly a new
Zamboni. If all goes well, renovations should be complete before the
first OHL game in September.
Seung-Ni Tae Kwon Do Moving
When Seung-Ni Tae Kwon Do opened its doors in 1991,
there were 10 students. A mere 11 years later and Seung-Ni boasts
enrollment of 400 pupils in Saginaw Township alone, causing it to
outgrow its current location and make plans to break ground on a new
6,000-square-foot gym on Weiss near Midland Road.
More Expansions at Delta College
The main campus of Delta College has seen some very
impressive changes in the past few years but that’s nothing compared
to what is expected starting in May this year. This $42.8 million
project will feature a new wing for manufacturing and technical trades
programs, a new pool and remodeling of the fine arts building,
broadcasting center, kitchen, commons, faculty wing, and fitness
center. The first phase of construction should be complete before fall
2003 and the second phase before January 2004.
