SAGINAW, MI – JoAnn Crary, President of
Saginaw Future Inc., was selected to receive the "Medalist of the Year"
award by the Michigan Economic Developers Association (MEDA).
MEDA has been the leader of economic development in Michigan for over 40
years. Consisting of members who strive to build and retain economic
development in Michigan, MEDA makes it possible for professionals to do
their jobs more effectively and efficiently. With membership climbing
toward 400, the association is dedicated to providing services and
benefits geared with expanded insight towards Michigan's future.
The Medalist is MEDA's top annual award and is chosen from the
membership and given to the individual who has demonstrated commitment
to the profession of economic development, dedication to the growth of
his or her community of responsibility, and has shown a record of
outstanding achievement.
SFI achieved a new milestone in 2001, attracting over $1 billion in new
investment to Saginaw County.
Crary has served as President of SFI since 1993 and is actively involved
in a variety of community projects and initiatives. She also serves on
the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Board, Saginaw County
Crime Prevention Council, Covenant Healthcare Partners Board of
Directors, and the Saginaw Riverfront Development Commission.
In 1996, Crary received the "Economic Developer of the Year" award from
Governor John Engler for "outstanding contributions in economic
development." In 1991, she was named the Women in Business Advocate by
the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Crary recently received an MSA degree from Central Michigan University.
In addition, MEDA presented two other awards at its Annual Conference at
the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids, MI, Aug. 15-17. Warren Cook, Jr.,
Vice President of The Enterprise Group of Jackson received the Mike
Conboy Award for providing outstanding, long-term contributions to MEDA
in the area of education.
The MEDA board also chose Doug Rothwell, CEO, Michigan Economic
Development Corporation, as the 2001 recipient of the President's Award,
based on recognizable contributions to MEDA and the State of Michigan. |
