Medical Manufacturer Continues to Expand

Unique
Instruments, Inc. is a local success story in the growing
biotech market. The company invested $8.95 million in new equipment to
increase production at its Saginaw County facility.
The company is a medical device
manufacturer that specializes in surgical cutting accessories,
instruments and implants. Unique Instruments, established in 1977, added
capacity through leased space in Buena Vista Charter Township, which
will more than double its size. The company hired 90 new employees in
2005, due to the expansion.
Saginaw Future facilitated
meetings with the MEDC and local government resulting in a State
Education Tax incentive, as well as a local investment incentive. Unique
produces a number of instruments used in various medical procedures,
such as spinal implants and bone screws, surgical drill bits for dental
and sports medicine procedures and surgical blades for total knee
replacement surgery.
Unique Instruments has a number
of certifications, such as, ISO Class 7 Certified (Class 10,000) Clean
Room, ISO 9001:2000 Certified Quality System and ISO 13485:2003. Unique
is also registered by the Food and Drug Administration. This is the
second recent investment for Unique. The company invested over $2
million in 2003, for the transfer of equipment to its Bridgeport
facility, which resulted in the hiring of nine people.
