RECEIVES $25,000 AT&T GRANT
Grant will fund
business attraction and retention program for life sciences industries
Saginaw, Mich., Feb. 24, 2006 –
AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is proud
to announce a grant that will help Saginaw Future Inc. continue its mission
of creating local jobs and economic diversification. The $25,000 grant,
which was reported on at the organization’s meeting on Friday afternoon, is
a gift from the AT&T Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AT&T Inc. and one
of the country’s largest corporate foundations.
“AT&T is pleased to fund this particular initiative and
continue our contribution to Saginaw Future inc.’s economic development
efforts,” said Gavin Goetz, director of external affairs for AT&T in
Saginaw. “We are confident that this program will have a positive impact on
the entire community.”
The AT&T grant is expected to result in the attraction of
medical device and diagnostic equipment firms to Saginaw County, creating
new high-tech jobs for the region. In addition, this program will help
drive the development of a diverse technology workforce. Grant funds will
be used to develop printed and electronic materials describing regional
assets that support the medical device industry.
“I applaud Saginaw Future and AT&T for their support of
innovative, out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to economic development in
the Saginaw area,” said Michigan State Representative, Roger Kahn(94th).
“It is imperative that all business, nonprofit and government leaders
continue to create and sustain programs that move our economy forward.”
AT&T has a long-standing partnership with Saginaw Future
inc., having supported a number of the organization’s successful programs
such as the Saginaw County Workforce Development program, a virtual tour
program, and a computerized Geographic Information System.
“This program will allow Saginaw Future to focus on growing
the local life sciences industry at a key time,” said JoAnn Crary, President
and CEO of Saginaw Future Inc. “We are grateful to AT&T, a champion of
Saginaw’s economic development, for its continued support of our
organization.”
