3rd Quarter Saginaw County Business Attractions

The following are companies Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) assisted with expansion projects and those firms locating in Saginaw County during the 3rd quarter of 2006.

Expansions

  • Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance is expanding its corporate headquarters by 47,000 square feet.  The company is investing $10 million in the project, which is expected to create an initial 70 jobs with an estimated 130 more jobs to follow.  The insurance company is constructing a new fitness center for its employees, renovating office and building additional office space.  The Michigan Economic Development Corporation granted $330,784 to the City of Frankenmuth to support the project.  The funds will be used to upgrade an adjoining wastewater system and the city will contribute $323,284.
  • Memtron Input Components is purchasing new machinery to support client growth and needs.  The company is investing $175,500 and is expected to create three new jobs as a result.  This is the company's third major investment in the past six years, which total more than $1.2 million.  Memtron designs and manufacturers electronic input components, membrane switches and control panels.  Memtron devices are used in a variety of applications from hospital surgical equipment to advanced manufacturing machinery. 
  • MKR Fabricating purchased a new steel roll-bending machine.  The custom steel fabrication company provides bendings, rolling, shearing, welding, sawing and punching services for the production of machinery and parts.  MKR's $176,535 investment will lead to the creation of two new jobs.  Saginaw Future assisted the company and the community with an investment incentive.  The Buena Vista Charter Township based company was established in 1987 and has approximately 18 employees. 
  • Ranger Tool & Die Co. has purchased nearly $120,000 in new equipment, which will also lead to the creation of two new jobs.  Since 1954, the privately owned company specializes in all varieties of stamped and machined prototypes, and product development parts.  Ranger Tool possesses a wide range of CNC and manual capabilities along with the ability to perform complex manufacturing processes with the latest technology. 
  • Rico Tool Company, Inc. continues to reinvest in its future.  Rico Tool recently purchased $110,000 in new machinery and is expected to add one employee as a result.  This is the second recent investment for the company.  In 2004, Rico Tool invested $241,000 in new Computerized Numerical Control equipment due to increased demand for its products.
  • Siler Precision Machine, Inc. also continues to reinvest in its future.  The company recently purchased a new $121,000 milling center that led to the addition of a new employee.  This is the third major equipment purchase for Siler Precision in the past five years, totaling over $500,000.  Saginaw Future has worked closely with Siler as it continues to grow and open up new markets.

Attractions

  • Lake State Railroad has acquired approximately 67 miles of CSX Transportation rail properties in the City of Saginaw area.  “The Saginaw Cluster” operates under the name Saginaw Bay Southern (SBS).  The company has officially begun operations at its newly renovated offices on N. Washington Ave. in the City of Saginaw.  SBS refitted the former CSX facility.  The seven-figure investment and renovation is expected to create 25 new jobs.

  • Winzer Corporation, a 27-year-old national distributor of fasteners, auto repair products, maintenance supplies and chemicals, has leased the former SFI Speculative Building.  The 40,000 square foot facility is located in the Buena Vista Commerce Centre Industrial Park.  The development and marketing of the pre-existing Speculative Building was a joint effort of Buena Vista Charter Township, BV Speculative Building LLC and Saginaw Future Inc.

In the 3rd quarter of 2006, SFI assisted eight companies that invested over $11 million and will create more than 233 jobs.  SFI was also able to assist two organizations and the City of Saginaw through successful grant applications and advocating for specific projects.
