The
Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA)
will recognize several of the state’s most outstanding manufacturing
leaders and advocates with the 2008 John G. Thodis Michigan Manufacturer
of the Year Award. Each year, the award is presented to individuals who
have made a significant contribution to their communities through job
creation, exceptional support of philanthropic organizations, effective
advocacy on behalf of the manufacturing sector and other
accomplishments.
A
panel of judges representing industry, business development groups,
universities, associations and other organizations chose the 2008
awardees.
Mid-Michigan recipients of the 2008
awards are: Terry Duperon,
Duperon
Corporation president and CEO, overall winner in the “Small Tier”
category (leaders of companies with fewer than 500 employees) and
Stephanie A. Burns,
Dow Corning Corporation chairperson, president and CEO, overall
winner in the “Large Tier” category (leaders of companies with more than
500 employees).
Other award recipients include Kim
Dunnebacke, application engineer for Cone Drive, a Textron Company, a
Special Achievement Award honoree in recognition for her exemplary
efforts in education; and Peter M. Perez, Carter Products Co., Inc.
president, a Special Achievement Award winner for exemplary efforts in
manufacturing advocacy.
Award finalists also include: Richard
VandeVusse, owner and president of VanAire, Inc., in the “Small Tier”
category; Dr. Matthew N. Songer, Pioneer Surgical Technology, Inc. CEO
and chairman, also in the “Small Tier” group; and William A. Demmer,
Demmer Corporation president and CEO, in the “Large Tier” category.
“MMA is honored to recognize the 2008
Michigan Manufacturer of the Year Award recipients,” said John “Mac”
MacIlroy, MMA president and CEO. “These outstanding individuals
demonstrate the strength of manufacturers’ dedication to this state and
their commitment to continually improving industry for the betterment of
their employees and their greater communities.”
The honorees will be presented their
awards during a luncheon at MMA’s third annual CEO Forum to be held at
the Henry Center for Executive Development in Lansing on May 13.
