MMA Recognizes Exemplary Manufacturers
Industry leaders honored for contributions to their communities and the manufacturing industry

The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) will recognize several of the state’s most outstanding manufacturing leaders and advocates with the 2008 John G. Thodis Michigan Manufacturer of the Year Award. Each year, the award is presented to individuals who have made a significant contribution to their communities through job creation, exceptional support of philanthropic organizations, effective advocacy on behalf of the manufacturing sector and other accomplishments.

A panel of judges representing industry, business development groups, universities, associations and other organizations chose the 2008 awardees.

Mid-Michigan recipients of the 2008 awards are: Terry Duperon, Duperon Corporation president and CEO, overall winner in the “Small Tier” category (leaders of companies with fewer than 500 employees) and Stephanie A. Burns, Dow Corning Corporation chairperson, president and CEO, overall winner in the “Large Tier” category (leaders of companies with more than 500 employees).

Other award recipients include Kim Dunnebacke, application engineer for Cone Drive, a Textron Company, a Special Achievement Award honoree in recognition for her exemplary efforts in education; and Peter M. Perez, Carter Products Co., Inc. president, a Special Achievement Award winner for exemplary efforts in manufacturing advocacy.

Award finalists also include: Richard VandeVusse, owner and president of VanAire, Inc., in the “Small Tier” category; Dr. Matthew N. Songer, Pioneer Surgical Technology, Inc. CEO and chairman, also in the “Small Tier” group; and William A. Demmer, Demmer Corporation president and CEO, in the “Large Tier” category.

“MMA is honored to recognize the 2008 Michigan Manufacturer of the Year Award recipients,” said John “Mac” MacIlroy, MMA president and CEO. “These outstanding individuals demonstrate the strength of manufacturers’ dedication to this state and their commitment to continually improving industry for the betterment of their employees and their greater communities.”

The honorees will be presented their awards during a luncheon at MMA’s third annual CEO Forum to be held at the Henry Center for Executive Development in Lansing on May 13.
