Pharmacy Wins $2.5 Million Government Contract
September 9, 2008
The Apothecary Shoppe Pharmacy (TASP), one of Michigan’s
leading independently owned multi-specialty pharmacies, was recently awarded
a three-year contract in the amount of $2,525,355 from the Michigan
Department of Management and Budget.
TASP, located in Midland County, will provide Sexually
Transmitted Disease (STD) medications to Michigan Department of Community
Health agencies throughout the State of Michigan. The purpose of the
contract is to provide for the purchase of STD medications in unit of use
packaging to protect the health, safety, or welfare of Michigan citizens or
visitors.
“This State of Michigan Contract is important not only for
our company, but also for the Tri-Cities area and the State of Michigan,
especially considering recent unemployment statistics,” states Kevin Roeder,
CEO of The Apothecary Shoppe Pharmacies. “Contracts such as this one are
going to be the building blocks of our continued strong growth and progress
toward adding 200 new positions over the next few years.”
Two area economic development organizations have assisted
the company’s growth in the region and have worked collaboratively to
provide economic resources. Midland Tomorrow has assisted TASP with a
number of recent expansion projects that have advanced the company’s market
capabilities. Most recently, the Saginaw Future Inc. Procurement Technical
Assistance Center (PTAC) was able to assist the company with its winning
government contract bid. The Saginaw Future Inc. PTAC provides no fee
procurement assistance to businesses located in Saginaw, Midland, Bay,
Gladwin and Clare Counties.
“The Saginaw Future PTAC and Midland Tomorrow, as well as
staff at MEDC, have been instrumental in helping us grow our business and in
securing this State of Michigan Contract,” adds Roeder. “Despite the doom
and gloom associated with our fine state, we have been very encouraged by
the support we have received locally from Saginaw Future, Midland Tomorrow
and statewide from Lansing.”
This contract is a significant investment in the
Mid-Michigan region and reveals TASP’s status as one of the few pharmacies
in Michigan able to provide diverse medication delivery on this scale. This
latest distinction adds to TASP’s history of industry-leading innovation,
which also includes one of the largest alternative site proprietary drug
delivery specialty pharmacies in the nation.
The Apothecary Shoppe began operations in 2000 with six
employees and has seen significant growth, now employing more than 175 full-
and part-time employees offering prescription medications, medical supplies,
and over-the-counter products through diverse drug delivery systems in the
Long Term Care, Retail, Compound, Home Delivery, and Infusion pharmaceutical
markets. The company was also recently selected as one of Michigan’s “50
Companies to Watch” by The Edward Lowe Foundation.
