Quarter Saginaw County Business Attractions

In the 1st quarter of 2008, Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI)
assisted seven companies that invested more than $10 million creating 31
jobs and retaining 44 jobs.
Expansions
Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation (HSC) has leased the
former Thompson Boat building in the Village of St. Charles. HSC is
using the 100,000 sq. ft. facility for warehousing operations. The
company invested $3.4 million in new equipment stored at the site.
John E. Green Company invested over
$500,000 in new equipment purchases and built an addition to its City of
Zilwaukee building. The company added over 6,000 sq. ft. of additional
manufacturing space due to the increase in HSC contracts, with 14 jobs
being created.
R&R Ready-Mix Inc., based in Hemlock, is
expanding and growing due to the expansion taking place at HSC - its
primary customer. The company is demolishing old facilities located on
Pine St. and erecting a new state-of-the-art facility, which will also
include enclosed storage. R&R is investing $1,693,695 in the site and
new equipment, and will hire three additional workers. SFI assisted the
community with developing a tax abatement policy and the company with
its first ever investment incentive.
Star of the West Milling Co. provides drying,
processing and storage of grains. The company is headquartered in
Frankenmuth and has storage facilities throughout Saginaw County. The
company is expanding its Frankenmuth Township facilities adding 643,000
bushels of additional storage and a grain dryer. The total investment
is expected to be more than $2.2 million and five jobs will be retained.
T.M. Klein & Sons is a honey producer and
specialty jar distributor located in Swan Creek Township. The company
had been experiencing growth in its glass distribution business and
subsequently erected a 4,608 sq. ft. building and purchased new
equipment. The total investment is $225,000 and four jobs were created.
Wright-K Technology, Inc., located on E. Genesee
Ave. in the City of Saginaw, provides specialty machine design and
fabrication along with the building of test, laser and metal removal
equipment. Wright-K invested more than $1 million in the purchase of
intellectual property, equipment and inventory of a business being
disassembled. The project will bring eight employees to Saginaw.
Saginaw Future assisted the company with financing through the Saginaw
County Revolving Loan Fund.
Attractions
Central Insulated Glass has built a new facility on Dixie
Hwy. in Bridgeport Charter Township. The company manufactures glass for
commercial builders, residential building and remodeling, and the auto
industry. Central Insulated required a new structure to produce larger
sizes of glass as customer demand increased. SFI assisted the company
with its site search, an investment incentive available through the
township and workforce development needs. The total project investment
is expected to exceed $1 million with nine jobs retained and two jobs to
be created.
