Higher Education
Saginaw County is a destination for higher education and has one of only 158 accredited medical schools in the nation - CMU College of Medicine. We also have top technical talent and a skilled manufacturing workforce - all of whom benefit from convenient access to premier educational institutions. Saginaw County is home to five universities and two community colleges and has recently invested $14 million in STEM education initiatives at the college level.
Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College have locations in Saginaw. Northwood University, Alma College, Davenport University, and Mid Michigan Community College are all located in the Region. Together, they offer a wide variety of educational opportunities to more than 45,000 students.
In addition, local institutions are offering educational programs to high school students. For example, Saginaw Valley State University hosted the First Robotics Competition State Championship, drawing thousands of high school competitors.
Adults are benefiting from local educational partnerships as well. Saginaw Valley State University, in partnership with the SBDC, is supporting local entrepreneurs looking to learn business skills.

Internship Programs & Resources
Michigan STEM Forward is a statewide program of Michigan Economic Development Corporation that matches students attending Michigan colleges and universities with internship opportunities at the state’s leading innovative companies. Companies do not have to be in a specific industry, but all internships must be STEM-focused. STEM Forward provides students meaningful career experience and promotes job retention in the state, while providing financial support to companies who hire these interns.
